A few ideas (pricing/space)
Pricing
I just put up some thoughts on pricing for a coworking space in Atlanta. As a disclaimer none of this is set in stone but merely a foundation to get some conversations started.
Over the coming weeks we should be scheduling a meeting of the community to further grow the idea of the space and the membership levels. I am calling out Mike Schinkel to organize this as he said he would. Plus he’s a great guy and has experience with organizing the masses.
So go check out the pricing page and leave some feedback.
Space
This is probably the trickiest part of the whole thing. Where do we setup? Where would the entrepreneurs and folks be willing to travel to? It’s a delicate balance of cost per square foot, location and finding a “cool” space.
There have been ideas tossed around from Midtown to Norcross to West end Atlanta, there is a rumor that even ATDC might be willing to forgo some space. We also have the issue of ITP verses OTP. There is also corporations that are willing to offer up some of their space.
In reality it might come down to having multiple spaces in Atlanta.
In closing
We do have some disconnected efforts going on which can either help or hurt us. I for one have the f**k it attitude and say let’s get something going, don’t really care who does it or where it’s located. I think all of Atlanta can agree that we need something, anything.
I would like all of us, Cowork Atlanta, Jelly Atlanta and everyone else working on this to get together and figure it out. I don’t want this effort to end up the same way Citizen Desk of Wisconsin did. BTW…. they attributed their downfall to “…slow adoption rate for new ideas around here.”
I do welcome and encourage anyone that wants to be part of Atlanta Coworking to use this blog and the coworking wiki as a place to share their ideas.

Aug 28, 08 at 10:39 amMight have some empty space adjacent to Georgia Tech available for rent… corner of 14th and Northside Drive.
Only catch would be that the building is for sale, so we’d probably have to agree to a relatively short (30-60 day) termination clause. Other than that, could be everything we need… even has parking!
Any interest?

Sep 23, 08 at 10:08 amI’m very interested in the possibility of either the Basic or Coworking Lite membership, in-town only at this point.
Would I need insurance if I just took my laptop/materials with me whenever I come in? I read a little about coworking and insurance but didn’t find any info about individual policies, so I’d have to know more there. Either way, I’d love to see this happen. Thanks for looking into it.
